Mind Memory is a video game experience that tells the life story of a Hong Kong woman. Her life story is closely linked to the history of Hong Kong and the story of the city. The player explores a city scape that represents the Tsim Sha Tsui district where the protagonist has lifed all her life. Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) is a vivid area with a long history and its development over the last 80 years is a depiction of the development of Hong Kong over all. The game depicts this development from the perspective of the woman, who lived through it all. It is a subjective, emotional look into her and the city’s past.

The player controls a ghost like or soul like character that represents the spirit of the woman. The starting point is a central road in the very heart of Tsim Sha Tsui. At the beginning the environment shows what TST looked like in the 1990s and the player can move and look around freely. The further they move away from the beginnig, the more the environment starts to change and turn into an earlier stage of the development of the district. Back up to the 1940s. As the player moves through they encounter other ghosts that pass through the same dimension but they are detatched from the space. They move through the walls and buldings of the city, as they are exploring their own memory that only partially overlaps with the memory of the protagonist. The music and soundscape also changes with the further exploration of the city.

In key areas, photos are placed that are a snapshot of the area they are placed in at the according period. The photos are a more realistic depiction that help illustrate a certain scene in the more abstract memory environment of the game.

The game was created with the Blender game engine and the city models were extracted from google maps.
